Got Head Covering Questions?...

Hi folks!  I'm sure many of you are aware of The Head Covering 

Movement website.  But if not - here's your chance to get acquainted.   

They are currently asking folks to ask their 'head covering' questions.  

They've done this in the past and have provided well studied

& excellent responses (just peruse the website).

But this time, they're planning to do a video feature.  So,

 you need to take a video of yourself asking the question.

The website has been a bit inactive recently while the author battled

 cancer... but he's doing better (indeed cancer free - praise Jesus) - 

and is back to providing content.  I have truly appreciated the 

site's excellent work  The one place I would disagree is their

 current view that head covering is for public worship only.  

And even there - they leave some room to other views.

So - do you have a question?  Or perhaps you've heard of a

 question that you don't have a good answer to?  Ask away!   

And if you don't want to ask them... you can always ask me.   No video needed...

To sincere questions - God and I will try to  help!  But  know that I'm not a theologian or historian.

Just a simple gal who loves Jesus and wants to obey His Word.

Why Modesty Is Such a Big Deal...

There is so much information thrown around about modesty.  

It gets overwhelming and kinda 'old' at the same time.  

I've even seen articles about the 'idolatry of modesty'

 which suggest that anything we pay too much attention 

to can be an idol and thus 'not good'.  Oh boy...

May I just share what to me is one glaring reason why modesty 

needs to be a huge deal?  Because immodesty can make someone 

stumble... as in sensually desire someone that is not their wife.  

And Jesus calls lusting after someone that is not their wife 'adultery'. Matt. 5:28.  

  Now we can say that a man needs to have the 

responsibility of guarding his eyes and thought life.   And of course - this is true.  

After all - a girl can be dressed entirely properly and

 a guy can still have an impure thought when he looks at her -  

if that is his intent. 

But for us women - Jesus has a very pointed and plain truth we need to consider.  

He said in Luke 17:1 that offences or things that cause people 

to stumble exist - but 'woe' to the person through whom they exist.  

We do not want to get a 'woe' from Jesus.   To get an idea 

of how strong this language is - later in Luke 22:22

 Jesus uses this same word to pronounce judgment 

on the man who betrays Jesus. 

Uh oh - we don't want to be in that camp.

Like it or not - we, as girls, do have a responsibility.

  There should be no reason why a godly girl would

 want to be sensually enticing in public. 

That being said - I don't see anywhere that we can't be a woman 

of beauty.  God loves beauty - just look at his flowers. 

And God made women naturally beautiful with a natural 

desire to be attractive.  But anytime - any time - we publicly 

accentuate or reveal (through tightness, drawing attention to, 

accenting, nakedness etc.) an area of sensual beauty - we err.  

Rather - let's go forth with a pure and modest beauty.  

I'm pretty sure we all know the difference...

Following Christ or Other Christians...

A sweet headcovering shop - Joyce's Coverings and Veils  

had this graphic posted on their facebook page today...

After a sleepless night of wrestling with varying thoughts 

along this line - I felt it was a little message from heaven just for me.  

It's not a new thought - but oh how I need reminded.  

Being like Christ means following His commands, His words 
(hint - they're in the Word), and having a mindset and attitude 
that does not spill out of our flesh.

Being like other Christians may well mean we'll miss some 
of the above... don't want that.

So today - again - I resolve to pick up and let go...
and let God lead me, guide me and not worry about what other 
Christians are doing.  It may be OK - it may not be -
but I need to be following Christ.  Period!

Praise Jesus - His mercies are new every morning ~ Joyce

Modesty Without Hypocrisy...

There was an interesting statement made in the morning's sermon...

Conduct without character = hypocrisy

Character without conduct = disobedience

Scripture puts it this way...

...Faith without works is dead.  James 2:20

You will know them by their fruits.  Matthew 7:16 & 20

We can outwardly appear righteous to men but inwardly be 

full of hypocrisy and lawlessness. 

 Matthew 23:28

Dressing modestly and wearing a headcovering are things we do 

'outwardly'.  But dear sisters - anyone can do them.

  They do not make our 'faith' - nor do they mean we have good character.  

Rather - they need to be the result of our faith and be part 

of the evidence of our obedient and Christ-centered character.  

Likewise - when we have wonderful things to say for the Lord
to whomever we meet - even with much joy and grace - 
but our appearance does not at all line up with His Word - 
we cast doubt on the name of Jesus by our disobedience.
It's like saying I love Him, but not enough to obey Him.  It flaws our testimony.

It's a true challenge to juggle it all.  Most of us tend to err on 

one side or the other.  How do we keep it all in check?  

By seeking the Lord's face daily and letting Him be the Lord 

of our days & ways.  (That mean He leads.... we follow!)  

It also is critical to maintain a humble walk before God and others.  

It's hard to admit our wrongs.  But when we repent and resolve 

with Christ's help to again walk in a manner worthy of a

new life in Him - what blessed testimonies we can be.

 

Jesus has not asked anything of us that He has not faced himself...

For we do not have a High Priest who cannot sympathize with our weaknesses,

 but was in all points tempted as we are, yet without sin. Hebrew 4:15

Lord - help our witness be true - from the inside to out.  Amen!

Standing Alone - A Great Thing For God...

Many of us want to do something great for God.
  There is much concern and effort put into trying to discover God's plan 
for our lives.  But this past week it occurred to me...

...what if the great thing God has for me to do is to simply be obedient 
to His Word?  What if my wearing a headcovering and dressing modestly 
is my great testimony for Him?  I was reminded of three certain 
young men from Israel and a big firey furnace. 
You know what they did for God?   They stood up (literally)!  
Among the whole assembly- they were the only three who obeyed.  
And they were willing to do so even if it cost them their lives!!  
This 'little incident' is the only thing we read about them in scripture.  
It was how they made God famous.  

I know many of you stand alone in your family, communities and church.  
I can relate to some degree... and it hurts, terribly.
  But the Christian life is not about us - it's about Jesus.  
And if He asks us to do something - can we be ready to do it - no matter what?
I trust that with God's help - the answer is 'yes'!
